Fundació Pagesos Solidaris

Origins of the foundation

The Fundació Pagesos Solidaris (FAS, Farmers’ Solidarity Foundation) started life in 2001 under the auspices of the Farmers’ and Stockbreeders’ Unions in the Autonomous Communities of Catalonia, Valencia and Majorca. At the end of the 90s, the Unió de Pagesos de Catalunya (Farmers’ Union of Catalonia), through its worker recruitment service, set out to provide answers to the growing demand for workers in the agricultural sector, while the arrival of new workers, often from other parts of Spain, and later of immigrants of different nationalities highlighted the emergence of human needs among the various groups of farmworkers. In view of the new situation, the FAS decided to carry out a programme of work for development across different social spheres.
